| Not sure if this will be on interest to our American or Australian friends
as I'm not sure how widely available this particular add-on is but an outfit
called Abacus have developed an Airbus A380 for FS2004/2002. I was given
this as a birthday present recently and I had put it on a list of possible
presents (my family always ask for clues!) because it was given a good
review in Airliner World magazine. It obviously depends who is doing the
review because when I installed it I was immediately disappointed, so much
so that I sent an e-mail to their Tech Support guys. Remember, this is
payware!
My main comments were:-
1. Sound. They have not provided anything like a proper sound set for this
a/craft but instead have aliased the 737-400 default sounds!
2. Contact points. The wheels go into the ground up to the rims.
3. The VC is very poor and a frame rate hog. The 2D panel is a bit better
but the quality of switches, meters, etc is very poor.
I have fixed 1 & 2. I have aliased the PSS A340 sounds, not perfect but a
darn sight better than original and I have adjusted the contact points. Of
course, the VC I can do nothing about but I'll look out for a better 2D
panel.
I must say that the outside look, now I have the tyres up and contacting the
surface, is very good.
The Abacus response to my e-mail was simply telling me how to return it for
a refund. As it was a present I cannot do that and I told them and said I
had fixed two of the issues. I also told them that this was nowhere near as
godd as other payware such as PMDG or even some freeware that I have
d/loaded.
I just thought I'd post this as a bit of a warning. :0)

| Thanks for the review. I've been looking for a good A340 and a good
A380, preferably freeware. Also, anyone have a good A320?
I was not impressed with the A380 from Mike Stone as I could not keep it
flying. Part of that could be my own errors in w&b, etc, but it also (I
think) is related to the flight model. The flight model was designed
before the A380 was even publicly unveiled for the first time a few
months ago.
I have not seen any other A380's out there. I have next to no knowledge
of A320/A340's out there. My biggest criteria is that it be simple.

My experience with Abacus started and ended in 2001 with their product
"Copilot", a flight planning program.
I recall contacting their support and getting no response for a week.
Outraged, I emailed the President. The next day an idiot support guy
contacted me via email. He actually had an attitude and told me I did have
to go over his head to contact him. I said, "Well, clearly I did..."
He could not help me. I figured out the solution as a registry fix and
email the solution to him. Never heard from him again.
I thought they were going to go out of business, but they seemed to have
undergone a revival this past year. It looks like they sell freeware
quality add ons for $10.00 now.
My guess is that they are still a bottom feeding company.

Interesting. Their A380 sells here in the UK for around £20, i.e the
equivalent of US$36-00!

Abacus uses the WalMart marketing strategy: lower quality, lower price,
sell millions... Their target audience is not "hard core simmers," but
rather they build for the "entertainment crowd."
Their goal is to produce mass-market addon a/c packages that're no better
than the default a/c that come with the sim, and in fact most often use
default gauges and sounds.
In short, it's pure garbage for those who seek out high(er) quality
products.
They recently asked me if I would consider licensing the Avidyne gauges for
their new product lineup. I simply said, "You can't afford them..."

LOL! Absolutely. At $69 per billable hour of development, that comes to
around $71,600.00...
