Author LOCKING THROTTLE CONTROLS TOGETHER
DANNY

Twice this week I have done something that apparently unlocks the throttle
controls on the PMDG 737. I know I have used a combination of key strokes
that will cause them to lock together so that when I advance throttles with
the joystick control, both throttels advance and I can stop going around in
circles.
Any one have that key stroke combination? It just takes way too long to
restart FS9. All help appreciated.

the key sequence: E, then 1 activates engine #1

the key sequence: E, then 2 activates engine #2

key sequence: E, then 1, then 2 locks engine #1 and #2 together

Thanks for prompt response. I was thinking it was CTRL + ? +1,2. I was
trying to make it too complex. Thanks again.

If you inadvertantly enter a single "E" keystroke FS9 will
automatically select ENG1 and only ENG1 for control.

Actually, I believe if you enter any text stream that starts with
an "E" and doesn't continue with a 1,2,3 or 4, you will get that effect.

I have macros programmed into my X45 throttle to select engines in
various combinations E12, E23, E34, E14, E1234, and individual 1,2,3
or 4.

No Joy! E+1,2 does nothing to solve the problem. I pulled out a book I
bought back in 1993 for FS5 and it too gives the key sequence as both of you
posters have sited. But it just does not work on the PMDG 737-700 with
Winglets & Stairs. Advancing the throttles with F3 or with Joystick control
produces same results . . . only throttle for engine 1 advances. If I press
E2, still engine 1 throttle advances. I have tried E2, ShiftE2 (doors open)
CTRL+SHIFT 2, even typed some dirty words but no joy.

OK...what you may have here is a case of a gauge in that aircrafts panel
issuing continuos "KEY" events. This would disrupt any attempt by the
user to enter multiple keystroke commands.

I have run across alot of panels that suffer from this malady.

There is a "fix" for this, short of tracking down the offending gauge.
It's a gauuge by Rob Barendregt. Look for it on AVSIM as:

RCBSE-10.ZIP

Also, check out this thread over there in the forums:

This will provide you with more detailed information about this sort of
problem.

Gypsy,
Hope you don't mind me using just your first name, heehee.
Thanks for that suggestion. Upon you suggestion, I have located the file at
flightsim.com and have installed and modified the config files in the
737-700 2D and VC folders as the instructions would have me do. Now I am
going to crank up the ole 737 and see what happens. I flew from KBOS to
KMIA this afternoon. All was well with FMC controlling the throttles to the
approach. After autolanding and autobraking, I attempted to advance
throttles slightly to disengage the autobraking system and started swerving
to the right. Checking the throttle quadrant, I could see only the left
engine control was moving. That's when I checked the newsgroup and found
your suggestion. Now off we go to see the results and will report back here
with success or failure.

Try e,1,2 Not E+1,2

That gauge may have helped. I initially modified the panel config file as
indicated in the instructions as to adding a line in the [window00] section.
In the PMDG panel.cfg, that is for the 'dummy panel' what ever that is. I
got some very strange occurances when I put the reference to the gauge in
that section. So I removed it from that section and added it to the
[Window01] section where things seemed to have settled down. The last two
flights I made in the PMDG737, the thrust levers stayed locked together and
was able to taxi to the stand as directed by Ground. Thanks for the advise.

Thanks Bryan. My message could have been interpreted they way you saw it.
However, I was pressing the letter 'e' then quickly pressing 1,2. At no
time was I pressing the plus (+) key. I even tried e2 trying to get thrust
lever for the right engine to move but no joy. thanks for you attempt to
solve my perplexing problem.

I hope that did it. Glad to have been of help.
