Author Strange Question
Ibby \(The Artist Formerly Known as Chris\)

Bet no one has asked this question before but why are the seats in the
flight deck (of Boeings for a start) covered in nice fluffy lambswool?
You have a technically advanced cockpit and the seats are covered in your
grannies 'throwover'!! - doesn't quite look right to me

At the end I think it is the still best material for long seats.

Very few materials are better for the long haul.

I second that! I have a lambskin that I bought for $30 in New Zealand,
thrown over my own computer chair. It is the most comfortable seat I have
ever had. Sheepskin is used in some expensive hospitals to avoid bedsores.

I believe those old sayings were started by some very disgruntled
sheep/lambs who are known to exagerate and tell lies.

Pilots are currently locked into their cockpits and have to sit in those
chairs for hours at a time. Now, I don't know about you, but I do know that
people tend to perspire in their nether regions and on their backs a great
deal, when they remain in one place. The fleece absorbs the perspiration
and doesn't leave an odour and as Quilly said, avoids skin irritations
caused by heat and moisture.

Olympic Airlines tends to put them on the seats inside-out but I guess
that's a cultural thing : )

We used those sheepskin seat covers too and I can assure you it's by far the
most convenient thing if you're strap on your seat for hours...........

So they're even more comfy that General Motors electric 16-way red
leather bucket seats with inflatable air pockets?

Lambswool/sheepskin covering is very comfortable and breathable. It keeps
pilots legs/rear/back cool in the warm air and warm in the cool air.

I have it covering the front two seats in my Bonanza.

Thanks guys for the responses. Its just one of those niggly things in the
back of my mind which needed an answer.
Once again this forum is inundated with a wealth of knowledge about even the
silliest of things.

Well, about three months ago when I used my digital camera to check on my
piles. It was fine then. Still, that may be more information than you hoped
for :-) No pics attached.

The strange thing about sheepskin is that it works the same on a
motorcycle. Cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.

You could cause quite a stir here if you posted them to Photobucket.
