I'm writing here because it seems there are some pretty computer saavy
people here...so..this is my problem.

For some reason, I cannot connect to the internet with my laptop. It is a
Sony Viao K-23, 2.8 ghz, 512MB RAM, 60gig HD, running Windows XP Home. I did
a scan with Norton Virus and since then it refuses to allow me to access the
internet...the strange thing is, it says I am connected.

I have one cable modem that I usually share between my desktop and laptop.
When I switch to the other, I will disconnect the power to my modem, let it
sit for a minute or two. I then connect the modem to my laptop, connect the
power to the modem box thingie, wait until all the little lights come back
on and the 'activity' light flashes, boot my laptop and I am connected.

Now, I do all that, start the laptop and I get a connection and IP address,
but I can't acces the internet.
I do this with my desktop, and no problems.

The strange thing I noticed, the IP address for my laptop now appears to be
the IP address for my desktop and vice versa. The IP address for my laptop
always started with a 67. and my desktop started with a 24 (I
think...something like that).

Now the desktop has the 67 IP address and my laptop shows a 24 (or is it
21)....but the desktop has no problem with it. Any ideas how to solve this
problem short of reloading Windows XP, and if I do that is there a way to do
it without losing my settings? Thanks...

-John

Dump Norton and after a restart install either: AVG (www.grisoft.com) or
Avast(www.avast.com) ,both free and far better.
If your connection is not working after dumping Norton google for this
utility: Winsockfixxp

Good luck,
