Contacting the tower, VFR

| Flying VFR, is there a way to contact the tower without waiting for the airport
to show up on the "Select an airport from the following list."
I have the tower's frequency (from Map View), key it in but hear nothing and
can't radio my landing intention until it shows up on the list.
For example, I can tune into DFW's ATIS 100 miles out and know that I'll be
landing either going north or south, and adjust for that. But they are landing
four ILS runways, and I don't know to which I'll be directed to until I can
contact the tower via the list.
It gets a little frustrating going through the "Airports closer to you" and
"Airports farther from you" crap until DFW pops up on the list. I know where I
want to go.
I'm probably just missing something.
Thanks

In the case of DFW (Dallas, Fort Worth), there ain't no way you are getting
in that airport VFR by first contacting the tower when you are close
enough.
DFW is a class B airport, which means that in order for you to fly VFR into
that airport you would first need to fly into the class B ring that extends
outward from the airport some 20nm. To do this you must have already
contacted approach control *prior* to entering the class B ring. Approach
control will then clear you into the class B airspace, traffic permitting
(in the sim, always).
At that point you would receive vectors and altitude instructions that
takes you to the runway. When close to the runway, approach will turn you
over to the tower.
OK, so that is the real world. If you are looking to simulate real world
aviation, this is how you would do it.
