| I saw a Russian jet come into LAX. I forgetthe name. This thing was
HUGE! It soared so slowly I thought it may stall. I was on
Manchester Ave and it made a shadow Ive never seen before.

Wings on the roof? 4 or 6 engines?

Optical illusion. I would wager it was flying a typical 180 kts or so on
approach. However, because of its size, it appears to be moving much
slower.
The opposite happens with small, corporate jets. After an hour of watching
large airliners land, you will think a small, corporate jet is just
rocketing skyward as it departs. The small size makes it look like it is
moving faster than it is.

But the illusion is overpowering. :-)
Once I saw a huge military C-5 (I _think_ it was a C-5) take off
from Andrews AFB, California. Whoa! My first reaction was - "No
way!!! It simply cannot go that slow and stay up in the air!".
