Author Tutorial/Rules for installing downloaded aircraft ?

Is there a tutorial for installing new aircraft ? - not anyone one in
particular - but just the rules. Which folders go where etc etc.

I would estimate only 30 to 50 percent of the aircraft I download install
correctly. If they are .exe's and do all the work for you, no problems, but
frequently you have to install it yourself. And not infrequently the
instructions are poor (if you don't know what end result your supposed to
end up with). Mostly my problems are with gauges. There's a gauge folder
in the main FS2004 directory, but in it sometimes I see not just .gau files,
but zips. Am I supposed to decompress these ? And I also find folders with
aircraft names in my gauge folder. Are there supposed to be any subfolders
in the gauge directory ? I say directory when I should say directories.
In the individual airplane folders I sometimes (but not always) find a gauge
folder as well. Is that supposed to be there ? Should I have copied it to
'master' gauge folder.

As I said, if I knew what the structure of the files/folders is supposed
to be , I might have more luck installing these (freeware) aircraft.

TIA for any pointers.

I haven't read all of these; just collected them after a bit of
googling (there are many more; this is just a sampling of the google
results):

http://www.simviation.com/acinstall.htm

http://www.fsnordic.net/
(see the "Tutorials" pages at this site)

http://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kds?$=main/howto/fs2004air/fs2004ai.htm

Direct link to downloadable .zip file that supposedly includes an
aircraft installation tutorial for fs2004:

You can start here:

Look at the Aircraft Container SDK first.
