Folders for Dash 8 and MD-83

| I noticed in my aircraft folder (the one located nearby the fs9.cfg file),
that there are usage logs for two airplanes which do not exist. The Dash 8
and the MD-83 have files to keep track of how long they are flown by the
user, and these folders were installed when I installed FS2004 originally,
but these aircraft are not able to be flown (as far as I know). There might
be more aircraft, too.
So, why are these folders there? Vestiges of old plans to include these
aircraft? Just curious.

| These are the AI planes.

| Interesting,
I have them as well....in addition to a log of every aircraft that I have
installed (174 folders), both AI and flyable. The only object in each of
the folders is a cfg file called state.cfg which has an accumulated_time
entry for each engine on the aircraft. Not sure what MSFS does with this
information.

It's there for the convenience of gauge programmers who want to easily implement
a Hobbs Meter, or perhaps use the data for a "engine maintenance mode," or even
- in the case of one developer - a gauge that replaces shiny, new "paint" with
aged, "paint" after so many hours...

| Ah, that makes sense. Thanks for the detail Bill!

I downloaded the "Aircraft Usage Utility" that collects the data from these
files and makes a fun little table that shows you how long you have flown
each aircraft. I enjoy seeing what my flying habits have been.
Of course, the AI aircraft always have a zero in the accumulated time.
Since they are not usable, they always will be at zero. (which is what
makes the existence of the file mysterious)
