I went over to www.pokemonxd.com and I'm discovering some new
information about the game. Maybe you already know these things, but
here they are anyway:

1. In addition to Shadow Rush, there are three new Shadow moves: Shadow
Wave (which hits both of your opponent's active Pokemon at once), Shadow
Sky (hurts non-Shadow Pokemon each turn, possibly as a weather effect),
and Shadow Half (which halves everyone's HP).

2. There are now wild Pokemon in locations known as PokeSpots. Catching
wild Pokemon requires the use of bait to lure them in and something
called a Spot Monitor to alert you of their presence. I'm guessing its
to tell you if something took the bait while you're somewhere else
completely.

3. At some point in the game, you can use a Purify Chamber to purify
Pokemon. This works something like the Day Care center in the original
game, but you will need to include at least one (up to four) non-Shadow
Pokemon to "guide" the lost soul back to the light side. The more
Pokemon you include, the more effective it will be. The four guides are
arranged in a circle, and the process improves further if each Pokemon
can type-trump the next in a cyclical fashion. Type-trumping like this
determines the "tempo," and is a factor in the "flow," or speed, of the
purification process. The flow is boosted if the Shadow Pokemon is
facing a Pokemon it can type-trump. You can purify up to nine Pokemon
at a time in this chamber, and the more "best circles" you have in there
the faster they'll all be purified. (They have a Virtual Purify Chamber
at the site in which you can test this out, but you only get a limited
number and only one "best circle" possibility)

I've been playing for maybe 15-20 hours now, and can give some
personal experience.

There's more than that. Shadow Mist (IIRC) hurts the defending
Pokemon's evasion, for example. I haven't seen Shadow Half.
Shadow Sky is a weather effect, and has neat graphics.

Right. You get a notification that the Spot Monitor has found
something, go to your P*DA, and bring up the Spot Monitor to find
out where something has appeared. It seems rather clumsy to me,
and I really wouldn't mind if the notification told me which spot.
The other use of the Spot Monitor is to keep track of how many snacks
are at each spot, so you can tell if you need to go somewhere and
put down more.

It is one of the things that makes purification a lot less frustrating
than in Coloseum. (I don't even miss Time Flutes.) It also takes some
of the flavor out of the game, in that you no longer really have to
balance beating opponents and levelling up with purifying Pokemon.

The flow doesn't seem to change much with different circles, being
mostly dependent on how many non-shadow Pokemon there are there.
Not that I'm all that experienced with it....

I have two current questions on the game, being at the moment stuck.

First, in her secret diaries, Jovi refers to a previously
unsuspected feature of the starting location (the Pokemon lab).
Is she correct, and if so how do I find it?

In the Cipher lair, I've cleared the parts I can reach, but there
are closed doors that I haven't managed to open, and I've found
nothing decisive. Should I continue to poke around here?

Third (okay, more than two questions), how do I find the little
girl's Pokemon, once it's been scared off? I've tried taking what
she tells me now as a hint, but I can't figure out what to do
with it.

And, having cleared out a few levels of the Cipher lair, how close
am I to the end of the game? The map's looking rather busy, and
this logically seems like the end of the story, but I haven't
been playing all that long now, and it seems too soon for the
story to be over.

Get all 14 shadow pokemon here. Cipher Admin Gorigan has the last 2 of the
14.
